Keep Your Pets Safe During Spring Wind

New Mexico gets windy in the spring!

dog wind albuquerque springHere are some tips to help keep your pet safe during our high winds.

• Bring your pet inside during the storm and watch them when outside to make sure they are not being upset by the wind.
• Check all fencing and lock all gates as wind can blow them open. Make sure your pet is microchipped in case they do get out of the yard.
• Bring your pet inside when the temperature drops to 32 degrees with the wind-chill factor. Though our sping is warm, we do have days when the temperature plunges. Just keep an eye on the temperature.
• Dogs and cats can get frost bitten ears, nose, and feet if left outside.
• Put a flap on the door of your outside doghouse, make sure there is dry bedding as well.

In high winds, you get a lot of debris flying through the air. This can get in your pet’s eyes and ears, and cause discomfort and potentially infection. If it is really windy, make sure they have a spot out of the wind or just bring them inside.
