Don’t Treat Your Dog With Your Jack-O-Lantern

Halloween is the absolute best! This is our favorite holiday. We just love everything about the season. The candy, the weather, the costumes, Cindy’s scream (which she will do for you if you request it. It is quite amazingly witchy!) and the pumpkins! Jack-o-lanterns can be cute or scary and your dog will likely find them delicious.

It is really common to see your dog sniffing around, even nibbling, at your freshly cut jack-o-lantern. This is because dogs like to eat pumpkin, no really they do. ¬†Honestly, pumpkin is pretty good for them too. It is full of good fiber and vitamins. ¬† If you want to let your dog eat your pumpkin, that is fine…with a few exceptions.

When To Let Your Dog Eat Your Jack-o-Lantern

  1. If your pumpkin is fresh.
  2. If your pumpkin does not have paint on it
  3. If your pumpkin does not have a candle or light inside it

DO NOT let your dog eat your jack-o-lantern it:

  1. There is any sign of mold or mildew
  2. If your pumpkin has been outside for more than a day
  3. If it has a candle burning in it
  4. If it has been painted or otherwise decorated

Basically, if you have a fresh clean pumpkin, it is ok for your dog to eat it.  If it is not fresh and clean, then don’t let them eat it. If they do they risk an upset stomach, diarrhea and vomiting.
